JAMESTOWN SPEEDWAY HORNET RULES
2010

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER:  The rules and /or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events and, by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH, THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.
The race directors shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. THEIR DECISION IS FINAL.
The fine for illegal parts will be $250, 30 day suspension and loss of points. If a competitor is found to be illegal after the track point season has ended, loss of all points will still apply.

  1. Cars:  Any American made (GM, Ford, Chrysler) front wheel drive car with a four-cylinder, single cam engine (no super-charged, turbo-charged or HO engines).  No Convertibles or T-Tops.  Three cylinder Geo Metro is allowed.
    A. Vehicle Identification Number – The V.I.N. must remain in at least one OEM location & will be used to determine stock components.
  2.  Bodies: 
    A. All glass, trim, mirrors, lights, etc. – Anything that could fall off and be a hazard to other racers MUST be removed.  Burnable items such as headliners, floor covering, door panels & insulation must also be removed.
    B. Doors must be welded shut.  Hood & trunk must be chained or pinned shut.  Hood must have 6 inch hole for extinguishing fires.
    C. No excessive cutting will be allowed – doors may be gutted for roll bar clearance only.
    D. Airbags must be removed.  Dash must stay intact.
  3. Roll Cage:  6 point roll cage required, constructed of 1.5 inch outside diameter .095 steel tubing.  The cage will be secured at four points, sandwiched with 1/8 minimum steel plates to the floor, and two additional points to the rear of the car.  The cage will come up around the driver, forming a rectangle on the roof, preventing it from collapsing in a rollover.  Drivers door will have a minimum of three bars, with 1/8 steel plating from top to bottom to shield the driver from objects piercing the door.  Passenger side will have a minimum of 2 bars.  Gussets should be used where roll bars meet at 90 degree angles.  The driver’s head must be below the top of the roll cage.
  4. Engine: 
    A. MUST BE STOCK – No modification of any kind.
    B. All engine components must be unaltered OEM for the year, make and model of car used.  No high performance parts of any kind will be allowed.
  5. Transmission:  No modification allowed – must be fully functional in all gears.  Automatic or manual.
  6. Suspension & Steering:
    A. Suspension may not be altered in anyway.  Stock or stock-type components (springs, struts, shocks, etc.) must remain OEM or OEM replacement.  All suspension components must be in stock position using stock type components.
    B. Quick release steering wheel is allowed, but column must remain stock.
  7. Tires/Rims:
    A. Stock DOT tires & wheels only.  Racing, mud or snow tires not allowed.
    B. No grinding, grooving, softening, or any other alterations.
    C. Maximum 70 series tires.  60 Series or wider will not be allowed.
    D. Minimum 25 pounds of air in each tire.
  8. Brakes:  All four wheels must lock up.
  9. Windshield:  At least four ¼ inch bars required in front of the driver.  Protective wire mesh must cover entire windshield area.
  10. Gas Tank: 
    A. The stock gas tank may be used provided that its stock location is in front of the rear axle and is securely fastened.  Gas tanks behind the rear axle must be removed and a racing fuel cell placed in the trunk area with a steel firewall separating it from the driver’s compartment.
    B. Fuel cell must be 12 gallons or less.  Fuel cell must be in metal container & must be attached with at least four 1/8 inch X 2 inch metal straps.
    C. After market electric fuel pumps allowed.  Must be wired through the ignition.
  11. Battery & Ignition: 
    A. One 12 volt battery only. Must be securely mounted (no tarp straps).  Battery must be in marine type case if mounted in driver compartment.
    B. No high performance ignition parts.
  12. Safety:
    A. Snell SA2000 helmet & flame-retardant driving suit required.
    B. Driver’s side window net required – securely mounted with latch at the top.
    C. 5 point racing harness required – no more than five years old.
    D. No bench seats.
  13. Fuel: Fuel must be pump gasoline only. 10% ethanol-enriched gasoline may be used.  No performance additives allowed.  NO race gas – this means NO Turbo Blue, VP 110, etc.
  14. Weight: Must be marked on the front left fender.
    o 1-1999cc must weigh at least 2000lbs.  (Geo Metro will fit in this weight rule.)
    o 2000-2300cc must weigh at least 2350lbs
    o Over 2300cc must weigh at least 2450lbs
  15. General Rules:  This class is designed for stock street cars only. NO high performance or racing parts allowed on this car. Suspension, engine and drive train must remain STOCK. Any areas not covered in the above rules shall be left up to the discretion of track officials. If in doubt -- ASK. We will uphold the intent of the rules.
  16. Points:  Points will be awarded to the car, not the driver(s).
  17. Numbering:  Numbers must be at least 18” high and 3” wide, in a contrasting color to the car.  Numbers must be painted on both door panels and on the roof.  A 6” by 6” plate with the number painted on it must be placed in the front & rear of the car.
  18. Car Appearance:  All cars will be kept neat appearing. Tin hanging off cars and/or sharp edges will not be tolerated.
  19. Eligibility:  This is an entry level class intended for first time racers only.  Track officials reserve the right to determine eligibility of competitors – experienced drivers will not be allowed.
  20. Disallowed if Not Allowed: If the rules do not specifically allow a part or component, or do not allow specific alterations or modifications to a part or component, then that part or component is disallowed.
